영국 ITV의 인기 오디션 프로그램 “브리튼스 갓 탤런트”에 사람들의 눈을 사로잡은 한 여인이 등장했다. 등장 당시 초라한 외모로 심사위원 및 관객들에게 비웃음을 샀지만, 그녀가 `레미제라블(Les Miserables)`의 `아이 드림드 어 드림(I dreamed a dream)`을 부르는 순간 모든 이들은 놀라움을 감출 수 없었다.

 

볼품 없는 외모 뒤에 숨겨진 아름답고 청아한 목소리는 모두를 감동 시키기에 전혀 부족함이 없었고, 마치 같은 프로그램을 통해 2007년 휴대폰 외판원에서 가수의 꿈을 이룬 폴 포츠가 처음 심사위원 앞에서 노래를 했던 상황과 비슷하다고 하여, 제 2의 폴 포츠, 여자 폴포츠라는 닉네임이 붙기도 하였다.

 

최종 결승까지 오른 수잔 보일은 10인조 남성 댄스 그룹인 다이버서티에게 아쉽게도 우승의 자리를 내주었지만, 프로그램의 심사위원 중 한 명이자 리오나 루이스, 일 디보 등을 탄생시킨 유명 음반 제작자 사이먼 코웰은 그녀의 숨겨진 재능을 결코 놓치지 않았다.
