여의사를 사랑한 나머지, 인간이 된 천사의 감미로운 러브 스토리로 빔 벤더스의 <베를린 천사의 시>를 각색하여 리메이크한 작품이다. <꼬마 유령 캐스퍼>로 데뷔한 브래드 실버링 감독이 연출했고, <더 록>, <라스베가스를 떠나며>, <콘 에어> 등으로 한창 주가를 높이고 있는 니콜라스 케이지와 로맨틱 코미디의 대표적 여배우 맥 라이언이 주연했다. 미국에서도 그런 대로 성공했으며, 국내에선 서울 관객만 45만이 동원되어 아직도 맥 라이언의 인기가 계속됨을 실감했다.
