마룬 5는 자신들의 출신지인 LA를 떠나 뉴욕으로 건너가 그곳에서 힙합과 블루스 등 흑인 음악의 원류를 흡수했고 여기에 흡인력 강한 팝적인 멜로디를 결합해 대중의 입맛에 착착 감기는 달달한 음악을 만들어내어 성공가도를 질주하고 있다

 

 ‘Maps’는 펑키(funky)한 초기의 전형적인 마룬 5표 음악들과는 다소 다른, 팝/록 사운드를 추구하고 있는 작품이다. 심플하면서도 은은한 기타 리프 인트로에 애덤 리바인(Adam Levine) 특유의 매력적인 하이 톤 보컬 그리고 겹겹이 쌓아올린 보컬 하모니가 동행하는 곡이다. 하지만 그런 가운데서도 이들의 전매특허인 리듬감은 여전히 살아있다. 

 

이 곡은 애덤 리바인과 아마르 말릭, 베니 블랑코 등이 함께 만든 작품인데 특히 아마르 말릭과 베니 블랑코는 이전 히트작들인 ‘Moves Like Jagger’와 ‘Payphone’ 등에도 참여했던 바 있다. 또 다른 송라이터들인 노엘 잔카넬라와 라이언 테더는 ‘Love Somebody’, ’Lucky Strike’ 등에 참여한 바 있다.
