서부 시대를 장식했던 무법자 부치 캐시디와 선댄스 키드의 활약상을 담았 다. 이들은 악명 높은 은행 강도였지만 휴머니즘을 드러내 동정을 받았다. 폴 뉴먼이 보안관 부대로부터 추격을 당하는 긴박한 와중에 애인 캐서린 로스와 자전거를 타고 과수원 길을 달리는 여유로운 장면에서 흥겨움을 더 해주는 테마곡 「Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head」가 사용됐다. B.J. 토머스를 톱가수로 등극시켜 준 이 노래는 1969년 11월1일자부터 4주간 톱 을 차지했고 우리나라에서도 비가 오는 날이면 방송국에서 단골로 들려주고 있다.
